Transitional Year Residency Program in Macon
Thank you for your interest in the Transitional Year residency program at Piedmont Macon (formerly Coliseum Medical Centers). Our faculty and staff look forward to meeting you and sharing information with you about the opportunities we offer.
We strive to provide a supportive, stimulating clinical learning environment for the next phase of your medical training. You will be supervised by our accomplished and compassionate faculty, and mentored by more senior residents. We encourage increasing autonomy as your comfort and clinical competence grow. Our curriculum is tailored to meet all ACGME requirements for PGY-2 advancement in specialties such as anesthesiology, radiology, dermatology, ophthalmology, radiation oncology, and physical medicine & rehabilitation. You will have diverse clinical experiences including rotations on the inpatient hospital floors, the emergency department, the intensive care unit, and outpatient clinic. Additionally, our program offers 6 months of elective time that may be tailored to your individual interests and career goals.
We are proud of our didactic curriculum, which includes board review, journal clubs, and lectures on evidence-based medicine. Additionally, all our residents participate in scholarly activity over the course of the year which results in a tangible product; this can range from a poster presented at our annual GME Research Day to a peer-reviewed publication, and can be in any area of the resident’s interest. You will benefit from strong research support and mentorship from our faculty as well as our GME Research Coordinator.
Macon is a medium-sized city with a rich musical heritage and an expanding nightlife and restaurant scene, while still maintaining a very reasonable cost of living. Macon is home to two major medical centers as well as Mercer University, with its attached School of Medicine and School of Law.
Thank you again for your interest in the Piedmont Macon Transitional Year program. We look forward to meeting you!
Sincerely,
Aisha Miller, MD
