Transitional Year Residency Program in Macon
Welcome to the Transitional Year Residency Program at Piedmont Macon (formerly Coliseum Medical Centers). Our faculty and staff are excited to meet you and to share the many opportunities our program has to offer.
We take pride in providing a supportive and stimulating clinical learning environment that prepares you for the next phase of your training. You will work closely with experienced and compassionate faculty while being mentored by senior residents. As your skills and confidence grow, you will be given increasing autonomy to foster both clinical competence and professional development. Our curriculum is designed to meet all ACGME requirements for PGY-2 advancement into specialties such as anesthesiology, radiology, dermatology, ophthalmology, radiation oncology, and physical medicine & rehabilitation. Clinical experiences span inpatient medicine, the emergency department, the intensive care unit, and outpatient clinic, with six months of elective time that can be customized to your career goals and interests.
Our didactic curriculum features board review, journal clubs, Step 3 preparation sessions, and lectures in evidence-based medicine. In addition, residents participate in scholarly activity supported through our research curriculum and research club, which provide guidance and opportunities to develop academic skills and produce meaningful scholarly work. We also place a strong emphasis on well-being, offering a variety of wellness activities throughout the year to support a balanced lifestyle during residency.
Macon is a welcoming, mid-sized city that blends Southern charm with a lively cultural scene. Known for its rich musical heritage, affordable cost of living, and growing restaurant and nightlife options, Macon offers an ideal setting to train, live, and thrive. With Mercer University’s School of Medicine and School of Law nearby, residents also benefit from a vibrant academic community and opportunities for professional growth.
At Piedmont, we embrace the mission to “make a positive difference in every life we touch.” As a resident, you will have the opportunity not only to live out this mission during your Transitional Year, but also to carry it with you throughout your career, shaping the way you practice medicine and impact your patients, colleagues, and community.
We look forward to welcoming you to Piedmont Macon and to helping you thrive during your Transitional Year.
Sincerely,
Aisha Miller, MD
