DIO Welcome
We are pleased to invite you to learn about our Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs at Piedmont Athens Regional, developed in collaboration with the Augusta University/University of Georgia Medical Partnership. Our institution received accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) in 2014 and presently has residency programs in Internal Medicine, Transitional Year and Pharmacy. Our first program - Internal Medicine - successfully graduated their first class in June 2019.
Although residency training is relatively new to Athens, GA, our programs are designed and taught by experienced faculty from renowned institutions such as Emory, Johns Hopkins and Yale – combining state-of-the-art medical education with timeless clinical skills. Our teaching faculty takes great pride in how we care for patients and look forward to passing on these virtues to our trainees.
Piedmont Athens Regional is a busy, complex locus of high-quality clinical care ranging from extraordinary primary care encounters to world-class specialty care. In this context, aligned with partners from the University, we are engaged in an ambitious enterprise to train the next generation of doctors. Our training programs are coupled with parallel efforts to develop health science research and enhance our institution’s patient care quality and safety missions. Athens, GA, is best known as the home of the University of Georgia and the cradle of creativity in music, the humanities and scientific inquiry – a fantastic place to live.
For our residents, we look for enterprising, innovative and engaged graduates ready to embrace this unique opportunity. Please explore our program online, contact our faculty members, and consider becoming a part of this remarkable movement in medical education.
Sincerely,
Dr. Catherine Apaloo, M.D., F.A.C.P.
