Inpatient/Outpatient Mental Health Care in Macon

Inpatient Mental Health Care

Our inpatient psychiatric program allows patients with severe mental health problems to begin treatment in an intensive and medically monitored therapeutic environment. The program features care by a compassionate staff 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Outpatient Mental Health Care

We have several outpatient programs for patients who do not need 24-hour medical supervision. Unlike inpatient treatment, patients in our outpatient programs receive treatment and then return home each evening.

Patients are mostly involved in group therapy throughout the day with other patients with similar challenges and backgrounds. Patients will participate in an individual session with a therapist for treatment planning.

Patients should notify their current psychiatrist or therapist before entering treatment. Patients will probably take a break from seeing them but will be referred back to them when they complete the program.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

This program offers two different tracks, psychiatric and chemical dependency. In both programs, patients can return home in the evening. This provides an option for those who need more support and structure than outpatient treatment can offer, but does not require 24-hour medical supervision.

Some patients are admitted directly to partial hospitalization programs, while others step down from inpatient care. Patients engage in five groups per day. Nursing services are provided daily for those who need them.

Patients in PHP see their doctor one or more times per week. They will monitor medication and address any necessary changes. However, immediate problems with medications can be discussed daily with the nurse or clinician, who will also communicate with the physician.

Patients should have a strong foundation of coping skills when they leave the program.

Intensive outpatient program (IOP)

This program is often a step-down program from partial hospitalization. It is for patients who need a lower level of care but still need structure and stability in their treatment. There are two tracks: chemical dependency and psychiatric care. Both offer a flexible schedule (three mornings per week) to allow patients to work if they choose.

Patients in IOP see their doctor once or more every other week. These visits, which focus on medication management and assessment, will vary depending on the patient’s needs. We offer the following programs:

  • Psychiatric Adult IOP: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays; 8:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Chemical Dependency Adult IOP: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays; 8:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Psychiatric Adolescent IOP:Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays; 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Teen Mental Health Care

The Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program provides an intermediate level of care for middle and high school teens who may benefit from more than just individual therapy alone but who do not need inpatient care. This care level provides short-term, intensive programming that allows them to participate in regular school and community activities.

Our program uses evidence-based illness management and recovery to provide teens with new tools to manage and resolve everyday life's practical challenges. It is led by an experienced team of licensed therapists, psychiatrists and other professionals.

The program includes:

  • Structured group therapy with a licensed clinician three evenings weekly
  • Family-centered participation one evening weekly
  • Cognitive behavioral therapy
  • Dialectical behavioral therapy
  • Interpersonal effectiveness skills building
  • Behavioral life skills training
