Welcome to the Birth Place of the Family Care Center at Piedmont Rockdale Hospital. We strive to provide optimal family-centered care in a home-like atmosphere while supporting your decisions for childbirth and overall hospitalization. Our units are staffed with many team members holding certifications specific to this specialty area to give patients the best care possible.
The amenities that our unit offers include:
- Private rooms throughout our labor & delivery and mother/baby units
- Adaptation of the directives supporting the Georgia 5-Star Baby Friendly guidelines
- Uninterrupted Skin-to-Skin with mother and or support person during the “Golden hour” immediately after delivery
- Support of individualized labor decisions ranging from natural childbirth experience to choice of epidural administration for pain management
- Mother/baby couplet care encourages rooming-in so families are confident in their parenting skills by the time of discharge home
- Free Wi-Fi in all patient rooms
- Certified Lactation Consultant on staff for private inpatient visits, phone consultations and free outpatient appointments as needed for additional support
- Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for high-risk, preterm, and infants requiring specialized care
- A skilled and highly proficient team of neonatologists and nurse practitioners managing the care of infants admitted to the NICU
- On-site First Steps Coordinator, who is knowledgeable about community resources, including parenting programs, Safe Sleep and car seat safety
Maternity Classes
Piedmont Rockdale offers a variety of informative classes and services to prepare childbearing families within our community. Families are encouraged to register for tours of The Birth Place so that they can see the physical layout of the unit and ask questions of the staff. Piedmont Rockdale regularly offers childbirth, infant CPR, sibling and lactation classes and a breastfeeding support group.

Maternity Tours
Our tours will help your family prepare by letting them know what to expect before, during, and after the baby arrives. Before the baby is born, we urge all expecting families to take a tour of the maternity unit. By doing this, you will familiarize yourself with our facilities and know just where to go and what to do when the magical moment comes.
