About Our Patient Navigators

Dawn Pittman - Patient Navigator
Dawn is an experienced registered surgical and cardiology nurse and clinical manager, with a passion for patient care. As part of the Marcus Heart Valve Center’s multidisciplinary team, Dawn is a critical component of the whole-patient approach — providing patients and their families with education, support, guidance and expertise specific to the diagnosis and treatment of heart valve conditions.
Dawn joined Piedmont Heart in 2010, where she served as manager of Electrophysiology Services and as clinical supervisor of a cardiology practice.
Dawn is active with her church and enjoys volunteering – including serving as an OR nurse in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake.
Ellen Filer - Valve Coordinator
Ellen has been a registered cardiac ultrasonographer (RCS) since 1996 and a registered cardiovascular invasive specialist (RCIS) since 1998. She has worked at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital since 1996.
As Valve Program Coordinator for the Marcus Heart Valve Center, Ellen serves as a point person for the valve team, coordinating processes and communication between patients, physicians and staff.
After hours, Ellen enjoys horseback riding, golfing, bocce, reading and weaving. She is currently the treasurer of her homeowners' association and volunteer coordinator for Little Creek Farm Conservancy.
