Lung Scan
What is a lung scan?
A lung scan is a special nuclear medicine X-ray used to detect blood clots or diminished blood flow in the lungs. The test is performed at one of our Piedmont Healthcare facilities in two parts, each requiring a radioactive "tracer" that will make any abnormalities more visible.
You will have an IV inserted in your hand or lower arm to inject the radioactive "isotope." Then a series of X-rays will be taken to determine if the lungs have adequate air and blood flow.
