Expansion of Innovation Excellence in Cardiovascular Research
As a destination of cardiovascular care with advanced therapies research, Piedmont Heart Institute continues to expand our clinical research reach across our region of care. With research sites at Piedmont Atlanta, Piedmont Athens and Piedmont Fayette, we have greater opportunities to improve outcomes for patients as we continue to expand our clinical trial reach.
We also continue to expand the diversity of our research beyond clinical trials. To improve all aspects of clinical care, our cardiovascular research team is investigating opportunities to enhance discovery through simulation labs, an ECHO Core Lab for MRI and CT CAT, too – eventually all Cardiology Core Labs will continue to drive our research efforts to increase all opportunities for improved outcomes and patient care excellence.
Global Center for Medical Innovation
Medical Advances Put Patients First
To offer the very best medical care for our patients, our cardiovascular researchers provide access to the next generation of cardiovascular medicine – tomorrow's novel and innovative therapies – sooner than otherwise available. Through clinical trials, our patients have access to these new therapies from 2-7 years before the rest of the world – for the very latest and most innovative care available.
Significant Research Initiatives
Piedmont Heart Institute is focused on improving heart and vascular care and outcomes through a strong commitment to research and discovery. With significant research initiatives in place, our team has been able to accomplish:
- #1 ranking in the world for the REPRISE 3 TAVR trial based on volume
- Selected as one of only four sites in the U.S. for the initial trial of a new transcatheter mitral valve therapy
- Selected as one of only five sites in the U.S. for an initial trial of a transcatheter tricuspid valve therapy
- Implanted the first transcatheter mitral valve replacement system in the U.S.
Centers of Excellence Approach to Research
With a Centers of Excellence approach to disease-based research initiatives, we work toward immediate improvements to care with innovative treatment options, stabilization of at risk patients and optimization of quality of life. Piedmont Heart Institute structures our research in the following categories:
- Advanced Heart Failure
- Electrophysiology and Arrhythmia
- General and Preventive Cardiology
- Interventional Cardiology
- Valvular and Structural Heart Disease
- Vascular and Endovascular
Artificial Intelligence Advances in Biotechnology
Working toward research advances across all Centers of Excellence, our team is leading the way with innovative platforms, including artificial intelligence advances in biotechnology. With the ability to accurately predict future disease states, including heart disease and stroke, artificial intelligence is incorporated into all research considerations at Piedmont Heart Institute.
