There are three types of fat within the omega-3 fatty acid component:
- Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA)
- Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA)
- Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)
ALAs are primarily found in plant sources like walnuts, flaxseed and canola oil. EPA and DHA are primarily found in fish, like anchovies, sardines, salmon and tuna. It is crucial to get omega-3 fatty acids in your diet. If you're not eating any of these foods, make sure you talk to your doctor about taking a supplement.
