When the dreaded afternoon slump hits, try these refreshing moves from Rebecca Keane, a yoga instructor at Thomas F. Chapman Family Cancer Wellness at Piedmont.
- Bring your feet a little wider than hip-width apart.
- Inhale, using your whole breath to carry your arms up overhead.
- Touch your palms together, then bend at the waist, dropping your head toward the floor with arms extended out.
- Either drop your hands all the way to your feet or modify the move by placing your arms on your thighs with bent knees. Either version will give you a great stretch in the hamstrings and the hip joints.
- Breathe deeply, drop your head and arms, and round your spine as you inhale and slowly return to standing.
- Open your shoulders wide and bring your feet together in a mountain pose, a traditional yoga standing pose.
- Close your eyes and take a couple of deep breaths.
- Repeat as needed to perk up and revitalize yourself throughout the day.
