Boy Scouts Named First Friday Heroes for Alerting First Responders to Neighborhood Fire

Auburn, Al. (April 4, 2025) – Piedmont Columbus Regional has named brothers Matt, Cody and Bryce Jordan with Boy Scouts the organization’s First Friday Heroes for the month of April.

A brush fire broke out in early March in a neighborhood off Wire Road in Auburn. A husband and wife had left to run a quick errand while their three boys stayed home. Their youngest son, Cody Jordan, spotted a fire across the pond in their Silos at Conway neighborhood and ran to tell his older brothers, Bryce and Matt, who called 911. The fire department quickly arrived and got the fire under control before it did any damage to homes in a trailer park on the other side of the pond.

The Jordan boys, all Boy Scouts, knew exactly what to do in the situation— displaying quick action. They immediately knew it was not someone just doing a controlled burn and that it was something bigger. With the windy conditions and wildfires across Alabama at the time, this could have quickly turned into a more serious problem since this was in a neighborhood.

A ceremony with the Jordan brothers and hospital leadership will be held at 4:30 p.m. CT at Auburn Fire and EMS Station 1 to commend them for their response. Their story is also featured throughout the hospital on commemorative posters and Piedmont Columbus Regional’s social media pages.

Piedmont Columbus Regional created the First Friday Hero program in 2016 to recognize first responders and everyday heroes each month who have gone above and beyond the call of duty.
