(February 25, 2025) – Piedmont Athens Regional is thrilled to announce its continued partnership with Akins Ford to support life-saving screenings, early detection, and quality care for women in the Athens community. Recognizing the critical importance of access to mammograms for early detection and breast cancer prevention, Akins Ford is committed to providing financial support to ensure these essential services are available to all women.
Molly Morris, Partner at Akins Ford, has a personal connection to the cause. Her firsthand experience as a patient at the Breast Health Center at Piedmont Athens Regional has inspired her to contribute to the center's positive environment. "I genuinely feel supported by the wonderful staff of the Breast Health Center," says Morris.
Since 2011, Akins Ford has been dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of the Athens community. Through their support of Piedmont Athens Regional’s annual fundraising event, Mint Jubilee, Akins Ford's contributions have significantly impacted Women’s & Children’s Services, the Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support, the Community Care Clinic, and the Breast Health Center.
Over the past two years, Akins Ford's generous support has enabled the Breast Health Center to upgrade its facilities, including the lobby, waiting rooms, and patient rooms, creating a more welcoming and relaxed atmosphere for all visitors. Additionally, a portion of their donations has funded mammograms for women who cannot afford preventative screenings, aiming for early detection of breast cancer.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women, except for skin cancers. In 2024, an estimated 310,720 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in the U.S., along with 56,500 new cases of non-invasive (in situ) breast cancer. Early detection is crucial, as the 5-year relative survival rate for localized breast cancer is 99%.
