Atlanta, Ga. (December 18, 2024) – Jyoti Sharma, M.D., will become chief medical officer (CMO) of Piedmont Atlanta Hospital, effective Dec. 29.
Dr. Sharma has been a practicing cardiologist with Piedmont for more than a decade and has extensive leadership experience. Currently, Dr. Sharma holds the elected position of medical staff president at Piedmont Atlanta. She also serves as medical director of Piedmont Heart Institute (PHI) for the Atlanta campus and is the systemwide medical director of the Women’s Heart Program. Among her many accomplishments are her leadership of the multidisciplinary Cardio-Obstetric program that focuses on providing cardiovascular care to high-risk obstetric patients and the creation of the Women’s Heart Support Network—a free holistic cardiovascular wellness and support program—that has made a positive difference for 10,000+ women in Georgia and beyond as they navigate cardiovascular disease.

Dr. Sharma earned her medical and undergraduate degrees from Emory University. She completed her internal medicine residency at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York and was named chief medical resident. Before joining Piedmont Heart, Dr. Sharma did her fellowship in cardiovascular diseases at the University of Texas Health Science Center, including specialized training at MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Dr. Sharma is the recipient of the 2024 Healthcare Champion – Innovator of the Year Award for Women’s Health from the Atlanta Business Chronicle. She has also previously placed on the publication’s “40 Under 40” list. Internally, Dr. Sharma earned the William C. Waters Award for Clinical Excellence in 2019.
Dr. Sharma is succeeding Andy Jaffal, M.D., who is moving on to a new opportunity at the end of the month.
