Piedmont Eastside Celebrates 30 Volunteens Finishing Program, Providing Hands-On Experience for Local Students

Snellville, Ga. (July, 31, 2024) – The six-week annual summer “Volunteen” program at Piedmont Eastside Medical Center recently concluded with 30 students joining the hospital from 16 different high schools in Gwinnett County.

The Volunteen program provides students with an opportunity to work in various hospital departments and gain valuable healthcare experience while being supervised by auxiliary members and hospital staff. Students work in various departments in the hospital, including the emergency department, cardiology, surgical services, labor and delivery, and more. They are able to observe surgeries, cesarean sections, deliveries, and other hands-on procedures. They participated in simulations that included taking vital signs, performing CPR, practicing intubation, and performing a CT scan, learning the role each job plays in overall patient care. Piedmont is committed to nurturing the next generation of healthcare professionals and sharing the many pathways available in the medical field.

To be selected for the program, students must submit a completed application, teacher recommendations, transcripts, and be interviewed by the selection committee. For more information on volunteer opportunities at Piedmont Eastside or the Volunteen program, please contact the Auxiliary office at 770-736-2463.
