Sheriff’s Deputies Named First Friday Heroes

Columbus, Ga. (July 5, 2024) – Piedmont Columbus Regional has named Sergeant Suli Sene, Corporal Chad Bohannon and Deputy Jeremy Gilmer with the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office the organization’s First Friday Heroes for the month of July.

Sene, Bohannon and Gilmer were in the middle of working a scene on River Road when a man approached asking them to help an injured person. After arriving at a home nearby, they found an injured woman who was cut from a window and bleeding profusely. Two people had already attempted to apply pressure to her wound without success.

They radioed for EMS and began rendering aid by using towels as the woman’s condition deteriorated. Deputies then located a tourniquet, and successfully applied it to stop the bleeding. The woman was later transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional. She would have bled to death had the deputies not been there to assist.

A ceremony with Sene, Bohannon, Gilmer and hospital leadership will be held on July 11 at 9 a.m. at the Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown Conference Center to commend them for their response. Their story is also featured throughout the hospital on commemorative posters and Piedmont Columbus Regional’s social media pages.

Piedmont Columbus Regional created the First Friday Hero program in mid-2016 to recognize first responders each month who have gone above and beyond the call of duty.

“Their line of work is often a thankless job and we want to make the community aware of our local heroes and all they do to make the Chattahoochee Valley a better and safer place,” said Piedmont Columbus Regional CEO Scott Hill.
