Piedmont Macon North Named a Top Orthopedic Hospital by Healthgrades

Macon, Ga. (January 25, 2024) – Piedmont Macon North Hospital is among just three Georgia hospitals to be named by Healthgrades to its 2024 list of best orthopedic health facilities in the country.

Healthgrades, one of the nation’s leading physician and hospital resource databases, recognized only 60 hospitals across the country this week in the orthopedic category. No other Middle Georgia hospitals are among the hospitals that made this year’s best orthopedic hospitals.

Using a clinically validated methodology that concentrates entirely on patient outcomes, Healthgrades provides the rankings to allow the public to choose doctors who practice at high quality hospitals, according to a Healthgrades. Those hospitals were selected by measuring performance using the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services data from 2020 to 2022.

“Hospital quality is a crucial, yet often overlooked, factor to consider when choosing a doctor,” said Brad Bowman, M.D., the Chief Medical Officer and head of Data Science at Healthgrades. “Healthgrades is dedicated to taking the guesswork out of the equation by providing consumers with a reliable, data-driven platform to identify reputable hospitals in their area. We want to give patients the confidence they’re choosing the highest quality healthcare.”

Gary Bernstein, M.D., Chief Medical Officer at Piedmont Macon North Hospital and Piedmont Macon Medical Center, said the designation is significant.

“Patients coming to Piedmont Macon North Hospital for orthopedic care should have the confidence that they are receiving the absolute best care available,” Dr. Bernstein said. “The ratings used by Healthgrades are based on actual clinic outcomes, and they bear out what we’ve known for a long time -- that Piedmont Macon North Hospital is among the very best when it comes to orthopedics. We couldn’t have achieved this designation without the quality physicians who practice at our facility and without the dedicated team of employees we have here at Piedmont.”

Healthgrades’ orthopedic recognitions are based on the clinical outcomes for back and neck surgeries (without spinal fusion), hip fracture treatment, spinal fusion, total hip replacement and total knee replacement.
