Augusta, Ga. (December 1, 2023) – Piedmont Augusta team members put their artistic talents to good use recently by helping residents of the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home create and decorate holiday ornaments.
The event was coordinated by Project Lifting Spirits, an Augusta organization founded in 2007, whose mission is to help wounded service members feel the community’s appreciation for their service. They regularly provide blankets, games, books and other comfort items to area wounded service members in hospitals and skilled nursing facilities. Project Lifting Spirits also coordinates with community partners such as Piedmont to sponsor other activities for infirmed service members, which include distribution of handwritten greeting cards from area elementary school students and other groups, and the decorating of holiday ornaments.
Piedmont Community Relations Specialist Christine McDowell and Internal Communications Specialist Lindsey Rosenlieb were among the team members who helped bring holiday cheer to the heroes at Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home, many of whom wanted assistance in creating ornaments that paid tribute to the branch of service in which they served. Piedmont Augusta CEO Lily Henson, M.D., expressed her pride that Piedmont was represented at this very special outing.
“This is a great example of how members of the Piedmont family make a positive difference in every life we touch, not only inside our walls, but throughout the community, partnering with great organizations like Project Lifting Spirits,” Dr. Henson said. “Spending time with these men and women, sharing the spirit of the season and thanking them for their service, is representative of the high caliber staff at Piedmont, and I am extremely proud to be part of their team.”
