Columbus, Ga. (June 26, 2023)— A total of 11 physicians graduated from Piedmont Columbus Regional’s Family Medicine Residency Program in a commencement ceremony on June 23.
The graduating residents are:

- Nathan Anisko, D.O.
- Travis Blanton, M.D. from Columbus, Georgia
- Alethea Duc, D.O.
- Tyler Johnson, M.D.
- Ambreen Khan, M.D. from Columbus, Georgia
- Samuel Nwaobi, M.D.
- Kathleen O’Pry, D.O.
- Karan Raghavan, M.D.
- Kadisha Rodriques, M.D.
- Anna Ulmer, D.O.
"Graduation marks the culmination of many years of hard work and dedication in the field of medicine by these fine physicians," said John Bucholtz, D.O., Director of Medical Education and the Family Medicine Residency Program at Piedmont Columbus Regional. "During their time here, each of them helped care for people in the Chattahoochee Valley and have positively impacted our community as a whole."
Of the 11 graduating physicians, eight will remain in Georgia or Alabama— including four who have secured positions in Columbus.
“Our primary goal is to graduate physicians who are excellent healers, engaged colleagues and thoughtful professionals who will impact the lives of others for many years to come,” said Piedmont Columbus Regional Chief Medical Officer Chris Edwards, M.D. “These physicians are well equipped to live the Piedmont Promise to make a positive difference in every life they touch.”
When established in 1972, the Family Medicine Residency Program at Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown became the first of its kind in Georgia and one of the first in the Southeastern United States. More than 1,000 family physicians have graduated from the nationally-recognized program. It is a fully accredited, three-year program that emphasizes the development of clinical responsibility in a strong academic setting.
In March 2023, a total of 12 doctors matched with the program and will join Piedmont Columbus Regional on July 1 to complete their residencies.
Although Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown is a large 583-bed hospital, residents enjoy the support of all major medical specialties, while providing patient care of the highest skill and sophistication. Core clinical rotations include Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, General Surgery, Intensive Care experiences, Internal Medicine, Neonatology, Obstetrics/Gynecology, and Pediatrics.
