Piedmont Columbus Northside Launches Robotic Surgery Program

Columbus, Ga. (September 26, 2022)— Piedmont Columbus Regional is expanding its robotic capabilities as the Northside Campus launches a robotic-assisted surgery program today.

The new da Vinci Xi Robotic Surgical System will enable surgeons to perform a range of minimally-invasive procedures that can be easier than traditional surgeries on patients, often with superior results.

The robot allows surgeons to perform complex procedures with incredible precision. Its instruments offer surgeons a greater range of motion than their hands alone. The system also has a 3D camera that provides a high-definition, magnified view of areas of concern as well as a microphone so the surgeon can speak to staff while manning the robot. These features mean surgeons only need to make small incisions, which translates into shorter hospital stays, smaller recovery periods overall, and less pain/scarring for patients.

“We are always looking for opportunities to bring the latest and greatest medical technology to Columbus,” said Northside Campus Chief Operating Officer Laura Drew.

The first da Vinci XI surgical robot technology was installed at Piedmont Columbus Regional’s Midtown Campus in October 2020.
