Monroe, Ga. (March 24, 2025) – The American Cancer Society estimates that more than 150,000 people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with colon or rectal cancer in 2025. Colorectal cancers are the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in men and women combined, with nearly 53,000 expected to die from the disease this year.
Piedmont Walton is taking a proactive approach to raise awareness and educate the community during March, the designated annual awareness month for colorectal cancer. Recently, Piedmont Walton erected a giant inflatable colon in the main lobby of the hospital. This interactive exhibit allowed visitors and staff to walk through and learn about the signs and symptoms of colon cancer. It provided a unique opportunity to understand what physicians look for during a colonoscopy.
Additionally, Piedmont Walton offered information on preventive measures and scheduling screenings.
