Grieving Families Find Comfort Through 'Caring Cradle' Initiative

Cartersville, Ga. (February 20, 2025) – Each year, approximately 995 babies are lost to stillbirth in Georgia, leaving parents to face the heart-wrenching task of saying goodbye. To help ease this difficult process, Grayson’s Footprints Foundation donated to Piedmont Cartersville a 'Caring Cradle,' a special cooling bed that preserves the baby’s body, allowing families to spend precious time bonding and grieving.

“The 'Caring Cradle' initiative is a profound step in providing compassionate care to grieving families,” said Kelly Costner, Piedmont Cartersville Director of Perinatal Services. “By allowing parents time to grieve and say goodbye to their babies, we hope to offer a measure of comfort during an incredibly difficult time. This initiative underscores Piedmont Cartersville’s commitment to supporting families through every stage of their journey, honoring their grief, and helping them begin the healing process."

The 'Caring Cradle' allows families to snuggle, hold, dress, sing, take photos, kiss, and cry with their baby before saying goodbye. This time is crucial for families to grieve in their own way and at their own pace, which is an essential first step in the healing process.

Piedmont Cartersville remains dedicated to supporting families through their most challenging moments. For more information about the 'Caring Cradle' initiative or to help Grayson's Footprints Foundation, please visit @graysonsfootprintsfoundation on Instagram.
