Piedmont Mountainside Opens New Radiation Oncology Facility

Jasper, Ga. (January 29, 2025) – Piedmont Mountainside Hospital held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday for its new 8,760-square-foot Radiation Oncology Facility, which is located on the southwest corner of the hospital property, at Georgia Highway 515 and Bill Hasty Boulevard.

Physicians and staff at the facility will serve patients of northwest Georgia, including those from Pickens, Fannin, Gilmer, Gordon and Murray counties, with outpatient radiation oncology services. The equipment at the center includes a new state-of-the-art linear accelerator, a CT simulation scanner, and all the latest software tools to enable the best available radiation oncology care.

This will be the first facility in the Piedmont system to offer patients radiosurgery treatments using Brainlab ExactTrac Dynamic with thermal surface tracking, which provides sub-millimetric guidance for patient treatments.

“Strategic Growth is one of Piedmont’s anchors that guides the organization and by offering these high-acuity services close to home for the patients of our communities, we know that we will provide greater convenience for them during a difficult time in their lives,” said Denise Ray, CEO, Piedmont Mountainside Hospital. “We are continuing to expand to meet the needs of the community.”

The care will be provided by Piedmont Oncology Radiation Oncologists led by Adam Nowlan, M.D. Dr. Nowlan, who is very active in clinical research activities, and his experienced team of Piedmont Oncology radiation oncology physicians and other fully-credentialled professionals, all possess significant experience in coordinating exceptional radiation oncology care with the other elements of cancer care.

Other services provided will include:

  • IMRT radiation therapy treatments
  • Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT)
  • Stereotactic Brain (SRT treatments)
  • Stereotactic Body (SBRT treatments)
  • Tattoo-less Image Guidance
  • Deep Inspiration Breath Hold (DIBH) Breast Treatments

“Typical treatments occur daily for two to five weeks, which means patients will spend less time traveling for appointments, bringing care closer to home,” said Jill Garrett, Piedmont Mountainside radiation oncology manager.

The center was designed to provide integrated wellness with the environment and features a large outdoor porch overlooking a wooded portion of the property and living-room style waiting area with fireplace. The facility also will have a covered drop-off for patients who arrive at the front door.
