Surgical Robot Community Open House; No-Cost Screenings and Lung Nodule Education

Columbus, Ga. (October 11, 2024) – Piedmont Columbus Regional and Intuitive hosted a series of no-cost events to raise awareness of the importance of early detection and showcase robots utilized in various surgical procedures.

On Thursday, Oct. 17 from 2:30-4 p.m., there was a no-cost lung nodule education clinic at the Midtown Campus Conference Center.

“The education clinic is for past or current smokers, as well as those who know someone who fall in either category,” said John B. Amos Cancer Center Director of Thoracic Surgery and Thoracic Oncology Daniel Gwan-Nulla, M.D., “Come learn about lung screening opportunities Piedmont offers.”

On Friday, Oct. 18, select students from the Muscogee County School District and Columbus State University learned about how robotics plays a role in healthcare in a private event as they learned about the Da Vinci surgical robot and got the opportunity to operate it.

Also on Friday, there was a no-cost hernia and Body Mass Index (BMI) screening from 12-2 p.m. During that time, the public also had the chance to see and operate the surgical robot plus talk with providers who use it to assist in the procedures they perform.
