"Once you've bought your healthy, fresh herbs and brought them home, you want to keep them for a while," says Chef Nancy Waldeck of Thomas F. Chapman Family Cancer Wellness at Piedmont.
How to store hearty herbs
Hearty herbs, like parsley and cilantro, can be stored in one of two ways:
- In a glass partially filled with water, topped with an open plastic storage bag. Keep the glass in the refrigerator.
- Washed, dried and rolled in a paper towel, then placed in an open plastic bag. Keep refrigerated.
What about basil?
Basil is a delicate herb, so it must stay dry until you're ready to use it. When it's time for dinner, gently rinse with water and carefully pat dry.
