Why Your Support is Important
Heart disease is the number one killer of women in the U.S. and affects more women yearly than all forms of cancer combined. With heart disease, within a year of their first heart event, a higher percentage of women than men will die and within five years of their first heart event, more women than men will die, have heart failure or suffer a stroke.
At Piedmont Heart Institute, besides providing world-class cardiac care, we believe our team needs to care for women differently – with a more holistic approach. We have created a community-based program incorporating a healthy diet, physical activity or increased movement and support groups to help women achieve their healthiest life ever – even after a diagnosis of heart disease.
Making a Difference in the Lives of Women
With a positive impact already realized by many women, read some of our patient stories to learn how Piedmont Women’s Heart Program is making a difference – one patient at a time. Also, through a generous donation from the J.B. Fuqua Foundation, establishing the Dottie Fuqua Women’s Heart Support Network, we continue to expand our program to significantly impact women's lives across the state and beyond.
