Piedmont Employees Pitch In to Help Support Local Children Returning to School

Atlanta, Ga. (September 15, 2023) – At multiple Piedmont hospitals across Georgia, Piedmont employees participated in community-based efforts to support children in a variety of ways as they returned to school in August.

Along with law enforcement organizations across the nation, the City of Fayetteville Police Department hosted National Night Out, a community building event to promote personal and public safety and to enhance relationships among citizens and neighbors.

The Aug. 1 event included music, food trucks, car seat checks, crime prevention tips, health information, back-to-school supplies, and opportunities to connect with first-responders, law enforcement and various community support organizations.

To support the work of partner organization Fayette Alliance Connecting Together our Resources (FACTOR), a group that convenes Community Stakeholders to assess and strategically improve the health and well-being of local residents, Piedmont Fayette employees donated thousands of school supplies to distribute to National Night Out attendees.

“National Night Out is a way for us to connect with the community we serve as families prepare to go back to school,” said Paige Muh, Piedmont Fayette’s Director of Community Relations. “Providing school supplies is a way to build relationships and let citizens know that Piedmont Fayette cares about their health and wellness outside of the hospital’s walls.”

Thanks to the generous donations from Piedmont Fayette employees, Piedmont was able to distribute hundreds of school supplies to community members at Fayetteville’s National Night Out.

Other Piedmont hospitals hosted events as well, including Piedmont Eastside, Piedmont Macon and Macon North, Piedmont Newnan and Piedmont Rockdale. Eastside staff hosted a school supply drive for employees and also donated supplies to the local YMCA.

Piedmont Macon and Macon North employees participated in three events. Piedmont’s Macon clinical hub held back-to-school drives at both hospitals to benefit about 50 school-aged students at the Brookdale Resource Center, which is for homeless people in Macon. Several community groups and businesses contributed to that event.

In addition, the Macon hub used its Blue Jeans for a Cause donations (in which employees pay into a fund so that they can wear blue jeans to work on Fridays) and gave it to Burdell-Hunt Elementary  to buy items for students as they headed back to school.

The Macon hub also participated in the Bibb County public school system’s Back to School Bash, where employees handed out school supplies and Piedmont literature to about 800 families. Macon employees joined several other businesses at that drive-through event.

Piedmont Newnan hosted a school supply drive and supplies donated by staff were contributed to the Coweta Family Connection Back-to-School Bash to support students in need in Coweta County.
