Columbus, Ga. (April 24, 2025) – Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown has been designated a level III neonatal care facility by the Department of Public Health in collaboration with the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
“Our caring, compassionate staff have provided high-quality, personalized care to women and their babies for many years,” said Director of Women and Children’s Services Jonetta Chestnut. “This prestigious designation should add to the confidence of parents that we’ll meet their baby’s needs.”
Piedmont Columbus Midtown underwent a comprehensive on-site review of its capabilities and policy compliance in the Miracle Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), which on average cares for 550 babies annually in a 21-county service area. To achieve this designation, team members demonstrated their ability to care for at-risk and medically fragile newborns with advanced technology.
“The Neonatal Levels of Care Verification program provides an objective assessment of a facility’s expertise, equipment and resources to meet patient needs at different risk levels,” said Chief Nursing Officer Cary Burcham. “This program will help Piedmont Columbus Regional strengthen care for babies in our community.”
For babies not born at Piedmont Columbus Midtown, the Neonatal Transport Team, made up of nurses and a registered respiratory therapist, ensures our tiniest patients are brought to the NICU in state-of-the-art ambulances with the highest levels of efficiency and care.
Piedmont Columbus Regional’s other key women and children’s services include a 24/7 Obstetrical Emergency Department, obstetrics and gynecology hospitalists, midwifery, a Maternal-Fetal Medicine clinic and pediatric services at the Bill and Olivia Amos Children's Hospital.
