Columbus, Ga. (January 20, 2025) – The second quarter of Fiscal Year 2025 at Piedmont Columbus Regional featured a national recognition, a dining menu overhaul, and holiday season giving/receiving.
Piedmont Columbus Northside was named a Blue Distinction Center by Blue Cross Blue Shield for its metabolic and bariatric surgery program, which has the opportunity to transform lives.
“All employees with a state health plan, regardless if they live in Columbus, LaGrange, Americus or somewhere in between, can now receive bariatric surgery as part of their benefits because of this achievement.” said Northside Chief Operating Officer Laura Drew.”

The patient dining menu at Piedmont Columbus Midtown and Northside was transformed for the first time in over a decade to feature upscale dishes like Southwestern Carnitas Bowl, Lemon Ricotta Pancakes and Lowcountry Shrimp & Grits.
“Food can be powerful as it accompanies medicine in the healing process,” System Executive Chef Clayton Knapp explains. “Our menu now uses fresh, restaurant-quality ingredients that are farm to table— something you don’t expect when you think of standard hospital food.”
Subhendu De, M.D., was named Medical Director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Pediatric Hospital Medicine program. Dr. De joined Piedmont as a pediatric critical care intensivist in September 2024, and played an instrumental part in the opening of the 30-bed Bill and Olivia Amos Children’s Hospital in October 2024.
Piedmont Columbus Regional gave back to the community in big ways: Team members raised $56,488.46 for the United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley in its annual employee giving campaign; Safe Kids Columbus personally fitted and provided 121 helmets for children just in time for those receiving bikes, scooters or skateboards for Christmas; Safe Kids also hosted pedestrian safety education programs in local Title I schools and distributed 3,665 pedestrian tip packets with reflectors to children.
Piedmont Columbus Regional received numerous donations this holiday season from generous civic groups, organizations and community members. Among the many donations: The Columbus Convention and Trade Center’s Breakfast with Santa event raised $41,431.35 for the Bill and Olivia Amos Children's Hospital, philanthropist Wanda Amos delivered gifts to pediatric patients for the 24th straight year and local law enforcement hosted Blue Lights and Smiles— a convoy of care featuring Santa Claus, who visited the children’s hospital and donated toys and wish list items.
